Sugarless dark black coffee is the start of the morning and to get my brain juices flowing. I prefer to start shooting into the golden hour, but due to our schedule this round we shot close to the afternoon. We began at Salon Sole with E.Hairgirl priming Sophiana for the photoshoot. During peak hours the sun was at its brightest and if not captured properly it can bring about unflattering results. Still I decided to take her to shoot on location rather than the studio to adapt with nature and capture a more unique experience. To avoid the model’s eyes from looking sunk in from the sun, aka the 12 0’clock shadow, I utilized the light from my strobe kit and positioned her against sun or placed her under even shadows below the underpass. Part of the underpass had vines with dry amber brown leaves spread on light blue concrete walls, in which, I used as a natural muted backdrop because it was a perfect organic background that contrast her ocean blue eyes and fiery red hair.
No matter what time of day you can capture flattering images by employing different techniques. I enjoy shooting on location because no matter what nature hands you adapting to those unpredictable elements can make or break your photoshoot. I suggest to open your mind to new changes and problem solve through it, and once you can seamlessly employ what nature has to offer you, you will give satisfying results. And working with a strong model that can easily flow with the changes makes the experience a fun challenge.
