Photo a Day : Day 49 Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving was a success. I arrived in San Diego at 5:30 am. I caught up on some sleep along the way and only needed to add a small bag of ice to the cooler. Alton Brown’s Good Eats Thanksgiving recipe was amazing! The Turkey was cooked to perfection and the family loved it. Holidays is the best time to create the good memories for the children. I wish that all my family & friends were physically closer to me but to the ones that are it’s important I help cook a meal and have the kids involved in the process. Buying food is great, but making the food with love, showing that some of the best meals can be made in the kitchen while instilling values of working together to create something that we all can enjoy together as a community is priceless. That is the spirit of Thanksgiving.
Some do not celebrate this day because, America was taken from the Native Americans, or with people in the drama with the verdict in Ferguson, but this day is deeper than that. In this day most of us has a break from our daily work for an opportunity to spend time with family and loved ones. I appreciate that opportunity in the limited time we have on earth, and though I cannot be at the table with everyone I love, I can sit at the table with the loved ones I can, creating memories that will outlast me. I hope it was a positive day for most of you out there. And the fact that I can write this shows that it is possible to Brine an incredible Turkey 450 miles and 13 hours later without getting salmonella! I am ashamed to say it too me that long to drive to San Diego, just because I had to catch up on some sleep at a rest stop.
