I didn’t eat since last night, I’ve been up obsessing over a project. It’s past 5pm and I’ve been craving crab and lobster all week. I’ve been on a cleanse for 4 month (vegetarian cleanse), until November… I decided to go out and eat the next best dish. I chose, a Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich … I went to The Veggie Grill in Santana Row, made my order and sat outside to listen to the live band. I don’t recall the name of the band, but their vibe was a blend of Radio Head and Pink Floyd. Kids were dancing as parents sat in the grass and watched. It felt good being surrounded by family festivities.
I received my Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich in 10 minutes. I sat in a shaded area so I opened the aperture up 1.8. This was my 3rd time enjoying the dish. The faux crab tastes close to real crab meat, the main difference is, unlike real crab, the faux crab is chewy and does not have slight tinge at the end of the taste. What I love, is the faux crab tastes closer to crab meat than traditional imitation crab. The vegan tarter sauce is close to the real thing. I was impressed at how much it tasted like a dairy based tarter sauce. Though, personally I’d add more horse radish to give it a kick. The Mac and Cheese on the other hand, didn’t have a cheesy consistency that I love in a traditional mac and cheese. But, for a vegan cheese dish it isn’t bad. All around the Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich satisfied my hunger for seafood while on a vegetable based cleanse. Next time I’ll get the fries or onion ring instead of the mac and cheese. I recommend to at least try the Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich at least once, especially if your a new vegan craving seafood.
