Fall 2018 – Independent
Independent school project that involves app analyses, user flow, wireframes, visual mocks, prototypes (Sketch, InVision and Adobe XD), an an app completed in 12 weeks.
My Role and My Goal
As a UX Designer, I created the concept and designed the user interaction.
We believe that Language wars will achieve converting language
enthusiast into fluent language learners. We will know this true when we
see the amount of user growth/retention as well as vocabulary, phrases
and accuracy over time.
We have observed that current language apps aren’t meeting the needs of keeping language enthusiast engaged enough to invest their time required to become a fluent language learner.
The final solution resulted in a language app that helped turn language learners into a language enthusiast.

Engaged and cultured
Learn foreign language for better opportunities
“I want to learn Spanish to advance in my career as a social worker but the apps are so repetitive and boring and my in-laws can’t even understand me”
“Oh wow! I can learn Spanish from a native Spanish speaker? And it can fit my busy schedule I want to learn more!”
“This is something new! Watch out Maurcio I’m going to beat you!”
“What I lost?! I’m going to message him right away! Maybe we can practice together more often!”
“Wow I’m doing so well! Everyone is so fun I need to become better so we can communicate without a translator!”
“Finally, I can speak Spanish, I can engage more with my
Spanish speaking clients and best of all speak to my in-laws!”
What we learned from the medium fidelity prototype is…
Less is more
When there are too many elements in the design users get
confused, sometimes even frustrated. People want things now, they don’t like to wait
or have to go through many obstacles to acquire their need.
Use Recognizable Symbols or Be Literal
The users responded well to the menu when recognizable symbols were added.
Had similar positive response when added the accuracy title.
Limit Opportunity For Distractions
The main objective is to have users learn a new language effectively.
Also users want to feel good.
Introducing too many elements in the app caused stress.
User game play history
Cleaner user statistics
Simple user search
Battle request button
Questions easier to read
